Brackish Groundwater

Description

The availability of brackish groundwater for development. See Tidwell et al. 2014 for details concerning how the metric was quantified. This update includes the following changes:

  • Have abandoned efforts to estimate available volume as supporting information is very limited. Also believe that cost is limiting factor over available volume. Availability is now linked to the probable depth at which it is available: less than 500 feet; between 501 and 1000 feet, between 1001 and 3000 feet, and zero if unlikely developable brackish resources in this location (see USGS brackish groundwater assessment at https://pubs.usgs.gov/pp/1833/pp1833.pdf).
  • Adjusted water access costs for inflation.
  • Also updated HUC12 numbering to be consistent with Version 2 of the National Hydrography Dataset.

Date: 2020 data and dollars

Output Format: Excel

Spatial Resolution: HUC8 and County
